How’s it going, my name’s Chris Worrell and I’m a Graphic Designer and Painter

My name is Chris Worrell. I’ve been designing for over 12 years, and have worked professionally in the design field for about 6. I’m a meticulous worker with a strong eye for detail and visual hierarchy, a love for illustration, and a fascination with font/color psychology. I’m also a huge fan of art history and all kinds of museums! My detail-oriented nature led me to creating photorealistic paintings when I was in college, which in turn has helped me a lot with my design.

Klines Bar and Residency

This project was a part of my Undergraduate requirements for my senior year at Florida Southern College. The project required us to create, design, and present a brand of our own over the span of a semester.

About Klines

Klines Bar and Residency is based on the Cedar Tavern which gained fame during the early 20th century. Klines is known as a home for local Chicago artists to relax, drink, and talk about art after a long day of work. The bar includes a residency aspect in which artists can live at the bar and produce work. Klines is known for being rough on the locals in order to attract a specific kind of patron.

Postcards

A set of my most recent work that includes the front and back of my favorite postcard designs. Each design follows certain design rules that were needed in order to align with my company’s marketing identity.

I’ve enjoyed working with diverse design styles to really test my abilities as a problem solver in design. Ranging anywhere from health supplements to HVAC services.

Florida Southern College Housing Guide

I was in charge of creating blueprints for dormitories and placing them into a housing guide with payment and housing information.

Process

This project began with me walking through every living space on campus and creating a rough sketch of room, bed, kitchen and bathroom layouts. From there I took the sketches into illustrator and created dorm layouts for every iteration of each living space.

After that it was just a matter of setting up the booklet layout with all the information that was provided to me by the college.

Other works

A collection of designs and illustrations from college. Ranging from poster designs for campus events to Zine layouts of my favorite photorealist inspirations.

A majority of these were created when I was mainly focused on the intermingling of my own illustrations with design and text layout. Use of color and differentiation of values was a huge learning curve for a long time for me and these specific projects helped with improving that aspect of my designs.

Paintings

A set of photorealistic paintings inspired by the works of Charles Sheeler, John Baeder, and Richard Estes.

These were done in preparation for my Studio Art senior thesis in 2020. The biggest of these works are 4×6 feet and took me upwards of 120 hours to complete. This style of painting came naturally to me at an early stage and really helped with my patience and attention to detail within my design techniques.
